AECOM Infrastructure & Environment UK Limited
AECOM is seeking to recruit an experienced waste management engineer to join our waste and resources team.
The role will include advising clients on the design and development of a wide range of waste management infrastructure (including civic amenity sites, transfer stations, recycling facilities and landfills), both in the UK and worldwide.
The successful candidate will have design and/or operational experience of waste management facilities, which will preferably include working in the waste contracting sector or in the associated construction sector. Additional experience in waste permitting, policy or strategy would be an advantage.
We are looking for an ambitious team player who wishes to assist in the development of cost-effective practical solutions in an environment that is collaborative, stimulating and demanding. The role would suit a self-motivated individual with a flair for problem solving, broad waste-sector knowledge, and the ability to network in order to get a job done. The waste engineering team is based in Chesterfield, and whilst the preferred location for the role is Chesterfield, there is an option for candidates to be based in other AECOM offices in the region (e.g. Manchester, Nottingham or Leeds).
AECOM’s waste and resources team provides a full range of services relating to waste management, from strategy and policy advice through to facility design and construction supervision. We work for a wide variety of clients, including national governments, local authorities and municipalities, manufacturing companies and other waste producers, and waste management companies. The team also acts as one of AECOM’s global centres of expertise in waste management, supporting projects in many different countries (recently including Mexico, Mozambique, China and Saudi Arabia). Our waste engineering team is based in AECOM’s Chesterfield office, and works closely with other waste colleagues in Nottingham and London offices, as well as supporting other business lines throughout the UK and overseas.
We have an impressive portfolio of major national and international infrastructure projects. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:
Landfill engineering designs for inert, asbestos cells and non-hazardous waste disposal using a mixture of natural and man-made materials as geological barrier and sealing layer.
Site drainage design, using 3D modelling, CAD and MicroDrainage assessments.
Household waste recycling centre and material recovery facility design and re-development for local authorities.
Landfill remediation projects, both within the UK and overseas, taking into account local as well as international standards and practices.
Completing the pollution management infrastructure and operating an “orphan” landfill site, on behalf of the Environment Agency.
Providing preliminary and concept design advice to LLWR Ltd regards the UK’s only shallow repository for low level radioactive waste.
Designing and specifying collection and service requirements for large-scale new residential and mixed use developments.
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:
Develop concept and detailed designs for a range of waste infrastructure projects, liaising with clients to understand the necessary performance requirements
Manage the production of drawings and specifications, with the necessary level of detail as required for waste infrastructure projects at various stages of development: studies, conceptual design, detailed design, procurement and construction
Reporting to the engineering team leader you will also interface directly with other team members, from graduate to Directors and with other internal design teams.
You will have strong development skills and have the ability to develop and manage the work of others if and when required.
Have the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance to teach and develop junior staff.
Ability to work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team.
Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams.
Experience in the waste management sector, preferably including some experience in a design or operational role for a waste contractor and/or a civil engineering company delivering to the waste industry.
Experience in civil or geotechnical engineering of waste management infrastructure.
